It has excelled in periodontics, oral surgery and dental treatment for medically compromised and physically handicapped persons.

RCT is done when

  • There is decay in the tooth & has reached to the level of nerve in the tooth.
  • There is injury to the teeth and nerve is exposed.
  • There is severe sensitivity to hot and cold due to natural wear of enamel and dentin.
  • Teeth are to be reduced for putting a bridge (in select cases).
  • There is infection beneath the root of the tooth causing swelling & infection.

Is done under local anesthesia. Removal of the decayed tooth part is done with the dental drill to gain access to the nerve. The infected nerve is removed with help of sterile needles(files). Proper cleaning and shaping of root canals is done to make sure no infection is left. Sealing of root canals is done with gutta percha points to prevent future infection. Finally the tooth cavity is filled up with filling material.Complete procedure takes 3-4 sittings on alternate days.

In select cases RCT can be done in one sitting of around 45-60 minutes & antibiotic coverage is given for 3-5 days. Mild pain killers may me needed.

*all root canal treated teeth are to be followed by a crown(cap) mandatorily.

steps in rct & crown

Crowns more commonly known as caps are covering on the tooth similar to shape & size of normal tooth.

 Crowns are indicated in

  • Teeth which are root canal treated.
  • Teeth broken due to injury.
  • Highly discolored teeth due to fluorosis, any systemic problem,or due to external factors like excessive pan chewing.
  • Correction of shape and size of natural teeth.

These are fixed teeth made using support of adjoining teeth and are cemented on to these teeth permanently. Bridges can be usedto replace small no. of missing teeth/tooth provided adjoining teeth have sufficient strength(bone support).

Types of material used for crowns and bridges can be

METAL - Nickel Chromium Alloy is used and is steel colored in appearance.

  • PRECIOUS METAL - Pure Gold can also be used as a metal for crown.
  • PORCELIN WITH METAL (PFM) - These are tooth coloured crowns made up of Porcelin(Ceramic) with underlying base of metal.
  • FULL CERAMIC - These are ceramic crown without any metal base underlying so are more aesthetic and natural like.

Those dark colored silver fillings considered best till recent past are now rarely used because of,

  • The unaesthetic colour of the filling.
  • The mercury content of the amalgam.

We provide tooth colored composite fillings which are advantageous as,

These fillings match to the tooth color and are difficult to differenciate.

  • These filling bond to the tooth structure ,they last longer & are stronger.

Adding a new zeal to pediatric dentistry we provide various coloured fillings for milk teeth,as these teeth are going to last till age of around twelve years.these fillings help motivating children for their dental treatment as they can have the color of their liking and these fillings look really cute.

These are similar to dental cements but are for prophylactic use. Those teeth which have deep grooves are more prone to caries(decay),these pit and fissure sealants act by obliterating these deep groove and fissures on chewing surface of molar and premolar teeth. Thus they make these grooves smooth and allow proper cleaning and so they reduce the threat of decay to a great extent.

One of the oldest superspeciality of dentistry orthodontic treatment or more commonly known as BRACES takes care of irregular teeth. Though the treatment is long (around 18-24 months) with recent advances the time is reduced to an extent and the final out come of the treatment oversees all yhe other aspects. This treatment not only changes the face of the patient but overall outlook of the patient towards life with an added confidence and smartness.

Orthodontic treatment can be divided into FOUR groups,

  • Many cases if detected early at around 6-8 years of age can be treated effectively with braces only, which if left untreated at this age will need surgery along with braces adding to both cost & suffering to the patient. Moreover many bad oral habits like thumb sucking, nail biting, tongue thrusting and oral breathing can be corrected effectively at this age without causing permanent damage to the face.
The best age for orthodontic treatment for a normal growing child is this age as during this age maximum advantage of growth is taken to influence the skeletal pattern along with dental irregularities.
Common myth that braces are for children only is not true anymore. Whole new concept of adult orthodontics has evolved. Patients of any age if have good bone support can have braces and boost their personnel and social lives. With recent advances and variety of braces this treatment is favoured by many adults these days.
To accomplish optimal orthodontic treatment, oral surgery sometimes may be required. Jaw surgery along with orthodontic treatment is called ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY. Patients who have congenital, developmental or acquired dentofacial abnormalities may require orthodontic alignment of teeth as well as surgical movement of either or both jaws to achieve proper function of teeth and beautiful face.

 Removable braces(plates)

  • For early orthodontics ,and for bad oral habit correction children need to wear these removable orthodontic appliances. These are to be removed while eating and brushing & are worn otherwise.
  • Fixed braces
Can be either-#STEEL COLORED –most widely used ,
Or #CERAMIC (TOOTH COLOURED)-barely visible attached on to the tooth surface ,only a thin wire passing through is visible.

Dental implants, the latest in dentistry ,is the perfect treatment option for people with one ,few or all missing teeth.

Implants allow youto do all sort of activities which is possible with normal teeth and not with artificial fixedor removable teeth.
Implants do not rely on adjoining teeth for support as the conventional bridges need they save cutting down existing natural tooth.

Advantages of implants over conventional bridges& dentures,

  • They are more aesthetic as they emerge out of the gums as natural teeth.
  • Adjoining teeth are not reduced so saves your natural teeth
  • Boost up the confidence as no fear of adhesive coming off
  • More reliable with highly predictable success rate.
  • Bite force of implants is much more than bridges and denture so more efficient chewing.
  • With implants there is no decay under prosthesis & you can floss and brush normally
  • No loose dentures if supported with implants.

 Single missing tooth

  • Multiple missing teeth
  • All teeth missing

Placing implants is a very simple but technic sensitive procedure. Usually done under local anesthesia can be

Two stage surgery with delayed function

  • One stage surgery with delayed function
  • Immediate function

As with many dental procedure implant placement also needs antibiotics and mild pain killers post are back to work the very next day without any hospitalization.

In two stage surgery around three months after placing the implant it is opened up and crown or bridge is fixed.

IMPACTED MOLAR - Most common surgical procedure in routine dental practice is removal of an impacted third molar or commonly known as wisdom tooth. In majority of people due to lack of space in arch thirdmolar are either not present or if present are partially/completely impacted into the bone.

  •  Why remove impacted wisdom tooth?

If totally embedded in the bone & are not causing any problem to the patient there is no need to remove these teeth as long as they are lying innocently but they are to be removed if,

    • It causes recurrent pain &/or swelling.
    • It is partially erupted and is difficult to clean, causes food impaction & decay in adjoining tooth.
    • Causes gum inflammation and foul smeel.
    • It pinches cheek while eating causing permanent ulceration & pain in the cheek.

PROCEDURE - Involves incising the gums above the impacted tooth & then removing the bone which covers the tooth .once the tooth is free of locking it is removed.stitches are taken to approximate the gums.these stitches are removed after a week.

Slight pain, swelling and discomfort is obvious and it remains from 2-5 days depending upon individual tolerance and body response. But after that its trouble free for life.

It is advisable to get the wisdom tooth in opposing arch also removed at the same time.

  • PERIAPICAL CYST - Usually occours in relation to the front upper teeth due to injury in childhood and patient not getting any treatment at that time
    • The affected tooth gets dark in colour and turns blackish/bluish
    • There is off & on pus discharge above the root of the tooth/teeth involved.
    • Some times a huge swelling occours above the tooth which was asymptomatic for years.
    • Patient has sensitivity to hot and cold and x-ray reveals a cyst or chronic abscess.

PROCEDURE - Involves giving a incision on the root area of affected teeth & removing the cyst or abscess ,cleaning the area thoroughly and root canal treatment of affected tooth/teeth in same sitting itself.sutures are taken.
*the affectd teeth need crown later on to mask the discoloration.

Gum diseases is a major cause of about 70% of tooth loss.three fourth of adult Indian population is suffering from one or other periodontal problem.

     Warning signs

    • Bleeding while brushing
    • Red swollen gums
    • Mobility in tooth or teeth
    • Bad breath
    • Early loss of tooth without apparent injury

    • NON –SURGICAL - Includes scaling and root planning
      • Gingival curettage
      • Flap surgery
      • Flap surgery with bone graft
      • Gingivoplasty
      • Crown lengthening
      • Gingival scrapping

MIDLINE DIASTEMA - Big gap in anterior teeth which looks unsightly can be taken care of with light cure laminates or ceramic veneers.

    • Before

Used widely for various applications in cosmetic dentistry like,

      • Malformed teeth
      • Midline /generalized diastema
      • Tooth fracture
